Best CPU around roughly $200, the cheaper the better (obviously).. I have an i3 4160 dual core. Need an upgrade. Going to be used for gaming, and possible Adobe applications.

Question is to go 8th gen, and 6 core i5-8400, or 6th or 7th generation i5, or even maybe an i7? Just overall bang for the buck is what I want

Ryzen1600 and a b350 motherboard will come in way cheaper than an 8th gen i5 and motherboard since it seems z370 is the only chipset out right now, that would kinda make me get a K skew cpu

7th gen might go on blow out sales soon on black friday

If it's for gaming, your best pick is probably the i5-8400. Don't get anything that has less than 6 threads. the 6th and 7th gen processors are easily beaten by 8th gen i3 processors. So basically your best pick is the 8400, or the Ryzen 5 1600 if you do some streaming or video editing.
