Used Parts build/Pricing

Littlelaner

I am currently looking on the used market as I am in the market for a second PC to game, and possibly use as a HTPC. I have found two possible options to build around. Keep in mind all prices are CAD.

First Option- complete build $300

Intel DH61R Motherboard,

H61 Chip-set Intel

i5 - 2500k 3.30 GHZx4 - 3.70GHZ Turbo

8GB 1333MHZ DDR3

60 GB SSD

500GB PNY Verto

Nvidia Geforce GT 710 2GB (1DVI,1HDMI,1VGA)

300MB/s Wireless

Second option: CPU+ finding other components $180

i7 3820

Would have to find other parts to build around the CPU (obviously).

My question is, which do you think I would be able to get more performance per dollar out of? I have read the 2500k is still a great CPU and feel like that system could be pretty good off the hop, although not sure about the 300 price tag.

Thanks In advance for any and all help!

I would go for the first option, all it really needs is a better GPU (1050ti/1060 imo)

Although the H61 won't support overclocking it's still fine to run at stock speeds.

Do you think that $300 is a fair price for that system?

why are you buying the 710 then? surely that's a waste of money that could be spent on a better gpu.

when you have a low budget you always buy something already built and add a gpu to it. the way you are doing it (buying everything separate) is the most expensive way to do it and you're wasting your money this way.

I have asked the seller if he would part out the system, but am awaiting a response, so if i can just buy mobo cpu and ram I will, because PSU is sketch and case is gross.

maybe try shopping somewhere more reputable first , never heard of this site which appears to be a less popular craigslist.

you're limiting your buying options by buying from this place.

I'd keep looking. That's not a very good deal. The video cards are useless, and you can get locked i5's several generations newer for less money. A 60GB SSD is likely towards the end of its life, and frankly is useless.

I'm willing to bet more people use ebay in any area over kijiji , I'm also willing to bet there is a larger variety on ebay at any given time in any category on ebay as well.

in short , no i don't think that machine is worth 300$ , i sooner have the actual 300$ instead.

Yeah. I sold my 4590, 8GB of RAM, 212 EVO cooler and motherboard for $200 a couple months ago.

Wait for Black Friday and grab some of the killer deals that pop up.

eBay is a shit place to buy electronics. More often than not, especially for PC parts, they go higher than you can get them for locally. You also have to pay for shipping, and in Canada that adds quite a bit to the overall price.

frankly , someone who doesn't know how to shop correctly.

Yeah, Edmonton. I only paid $140 for it a couple months before that, so keep your eyes open and something will pop up. Especially since the new processors are out and degrade everything by a tier.

Do you live in a city or in a small town?

Or you live in Canada, where there's next to no postings on eBay within the country, and anything from the US costs a great deal to ship. Do you live in Canada?

At least you make it out of Winnipeg alive xD

I'd also take a look at the LetGo app. Not sure if it's big out there, but it's decent out here and it's an easy way to post so a lot of people without a lot of know how post computer parts quite cheap.

Also take a look at the Reddit Hardware swap. There's a Canadian and American version, and sometimes some killer deals pop up on there. HardForum also has some wicked deals go through its classifieds section, but you have to have at least 100 posts to message people.

again , someone who doesn't know how to shop , or press the "free shipping" button.

don't denounce a shopping platform just because you're the one person who doesn't know how to use it.

Haha, even though I've spent literally tens of thousands of dollars on eBay...right. ;)

You go to eBay.ca and see how much stuff shows Free Shipping that's not horribly inflated.

Looks like you're the one that doesn't understand market dependent features.
