GTX 1070 1440p performance

jtmoseley

Hello! I am probably going to be purchasing a Zotac 1070 mini in the near future. Currently I am on 1080p, and since a 1070 is pretty expensive, what is its performance at 1440p?

Very good at maximum settings I have not encountered a game that doesnt run at constant 60fps, but if it drops it is probably because I dont hava enough normal ram, i only have 8gb. So i would reccomend it especially if you have 16gbs of memory

What games do you play? I mean no offence but you do have a minecraft profile picture so I hope you don't mind me asking

Minecraft is one of my favorites, but the most graphically demanding game I play is just cause 3 which runs at 60+ frames per second

My GTX 970 handles games such as Hitman (2016) on very high settings (No AA) great, so the 1070 shouldn't have any problem maxed out.

Minecraft is heavily CPU dependent, it doesn't really eat into your GPU much unless you're using shaders, high res texture packs, or mods that add a lot of visual stuff to the game.

And ram dependent, I would probably improve my fps especially in modded if I had 16-32 gbs

Not really. I've never had to use more than 4GB with it, even with a 512x resource pack, plenty of mods, and shaders.

It might help a little to have some more breathing room there, but I wouldn't imagine the increase being much if anything.

Actually ram doesn't really do much. You should be fine with 8. I wasn't judging you, I have minecraft installed too xD. You might want to check your configs and make sure that you have a good portion of your RAM dedicated to the game you are playing at the time. the OS only needs like 2. I've added more RAM and after 4 to 6 it does little to nothing. It is cpu dependent though.

Thats interesting because I have a i7 6700k, and a 1070 and can only run heavily modded minecraft at 50-60 fps

Is that right? I have a 6700k and dedicate usually 5 Gigs to heavily modded and run 100-200 fps usually, with gpu usage being very low. Is vsynch on? I am running an overclock, but its only 4.12 ghz until i get a better cooler.

Perhaps turn off V-Sync and up the max framerate?

It's possible V-Sync is on in your GPU settings too.

My i5 4690K and 970 at stock does a fair amount better than that, though it depends on the modpack. I usually get 100-300fps.

Like on skyfactory 3 I think I got like 150 fps average

There are GPU v-synch settings? That would explain a friend with a 1070 and a 4790k I met on skyfactory only getting 60 fps regardless of messing with default video settings.

I will try right now, it might just be a really poorly optimized pack.

Yeah maybe. Send me the pack name and I can benchmark it if you want, we have the same CPU. I can dedicate 4 Gigs. Graphics shouldn't matter unless it is a shaders one. I only have a 960 atm so :(

Yeah, it's in the Nvidia Control Panel in the 3D settings.
