Best CPU value?

rip

Seems too good to be true?

I listed on kijiji i wanted a 4c8t haswell cpu (xeon 1240/1230v3,i7...) and I said willing to pay around 200

he responded and said he is willing to go and i asked about shipping and it costs 20 because the catch is he isn't in the same province as I am

its not ebay so i dont have that protection but at the same time if i buy any other cpu locacally i cant tell if they're working unless i tell the owner to test it in a system and then open case, remove cooler etc which not a lot of people doing

upgrading from h81+i5 4460

so?

Its pretty hard to physically damage an intel CPU, if he actually sends it, its unlikely that there is anything wrong with it, unless its been overvolted to high hell.

Remember you cant OC with that motherboard.

Just go through all the regular things when doing an online transaction. Get him to take a photo of the item, with a newspaper or something to show the current date, as well as his name. Pay with Paypal. You should be covered pretty nicely. If you're really worried about it get him to throw it up on eBay, though if I was him I'd ask you to also cover the cost associated with that route.

The chip is ok, but honestly, I'd just save and buy an i5 8400 and a new motherboard in the spring when they launch the H and B series boards. Or perhaps there will even be a killer Black Friday deal on a Z370 board.

Yup. Such is life. You won't get that much of an increase with the 4770 compared to the 8400, and the processor is virtually the same cost. If you're that strapped for cash maybe you should be focusing on other things than upgrading your PC ;)

Taxes are low on something that's only a hundred dollars...

8400 alone is already 230 before tax :(

just want extra performance for video editing and potentially streaming games in the future

It is. So $10 more than what you're looking to spend on the 4770.

If you saved, and sold your old kit (you can get $180 for the mobo/RAM/CPU) that's $400.

You'd only need to save maybe $50 more to move on to the new platform, and you'd have much, much better performance.

Hence why one saves...

How is that so hard for so many people on this forum to grasp?

A cheap motherboard and RAM isn't that expensive, especially once you sell off your old stuff.

No, hence why one buys used, so they can get a decent CPU for a LOT less money.

The budget boards are not even out yet, ddr4 is expensive and coffee lake availability is non existent right now.

That's the thing. This isn't that good of a deal. The 8400 is a lot more powerful, and it's the same price. Thus, the only barrier is the motherboard and RAM, which aren't really that expensive. Especially considering Black Friday is just around the corner.

You are not going to find black Friday deals on products that don't even have stock/exist yet/in high demand.

Z370 boards are expensive.

DDR4 is expensive.

Looking at some CPU and found some deals:

*NOT LOOKING FOR A DIFFERENT GEN CPU*

*CANADIAN DOLLARS*

  • 220 - i7 4770
  • 300 - i7 4790
  • 190 - i7 4790T
  • 180 - i7 4785T
  • 150 - i7 4765T

Currently leaning towards a 150 i7 4765T as it is quad core with HT like the rest, although the clock speed is considerably lower than others. Worth it?

Else I am looking at 4790T, seems nice. But only if it's needed

Currently: i5 4460, H81 mobo. Want to do video editing and streaming

I wouldn't consider the T cpu's, honestly, the low clock speeds aren't worth it. The 4770 would be my choice.

I would go with the 4790t since it has a much higher clock speed. I think the 4765t would hold things back too much with that low turbo clock to be worth it.

the editing proposition will be the time issue (depending on softy/acceleration won't be fast for production value). streaming prolly would be fair, but not consistent.

straight 4770 or 4970 for speed and core usage.

the t values (thermal) won't leverage all cores (single core max speed)

the 4770 is on ebay whereas 4790T I can meet in person

would that change anything a lot? I mean I can go and look at the CPU itself in flesh

but from my prev threads it seems that it's unlikely for cpu to break

breaking a CPU is difficult (especially locked). buy it and save for the better processor and flip it (prolly not enough resale) or wait for the proper parts.

if the t-series throttles your usage, then you are in deeper do-do than not having it.. there are better options than settling for sub-needs.
