Looking for the best low profile cooler for this build!

pistoIs

With the release of the Louqe Ghost S1 in a few weeks, I've been saving up and planning my first ITX build, here's the part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QXxJJV

The only thing I'm not sure about is the cooler, I went with the Cryorig C7 just because of the sheer specs against the Noctua L9, but I don't really know if there's a better option than those two.

I'm planning to delid the 8700k and apply either a better thermal compound or liquid metal for better temps and the capability of a small overclock. What do you guys suggest?

Noctua NH-L9x65 or one of the smaller AIOs.

Instead of delidding it yourself, I suggest buying it already delidded from Silicone Lottery.

Are they actually releasing that case? They told me it was going to be released in a week or two 3 months ago. Not a very reliable company.

Noctua is, IMO,v the best you can get without going cooling, and even then id put the d15 head to head with most of the CLC out there right now. I don't have experience with that typical cooler, but if I was going to go with an air cooler it would definitely be a Noctua. Cryorig does make good coolers though, I've recommended the h7 over the 212 Evo more than once.

The C7 is rated for 100W TDP which is I think as good as you will get unless you move to an AIO (which I believe would require the large top hat).

Have you considered using the i7-8700 instead.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

The Noctua NH-L9x65 is a better cooler. Not by a large margin (at most about 9 degrees), but better.

You can use an AIO without the top hat, I believe it's the 92mm that fits.

Personally if it's a gaming rig I'd go i5 8400. Performance is within a few frames.

I have the Phanteks PH-TC12LS on my i7 3770 HTPC. Works like a god. Low-30s idle, High-60s/Low-70s on load.

Hey! If you are buying parts for the Ghost S1 already you should go for the Noctua NH-L12, remove the top fan and use it in the bottom of the case if you are not planning on adding a 2.5" drive there! This solution has been performing like a dream, with moderate fan settings the system is totally noiseless and with very healthy temps!

The NH-L12 is soon being updated with a taller version that will not fit, so get it while you can!

NH-L9x65 certainly is better but it exceeds case specs by 2mm.

The spec is wrong. They've made a revision that can accept 65mm coolers as well as 92mm AIO's without an extra top hat.
