So im building a new computer and i would like to do a custom loop for the first time and of course with that comes overclocking. So what i understand right now is it doesn't matter what card i buy they should all fall victim to the silicon lottery however power delivery will be important for consistency. This raises a few questions. Firstly im looking at 2 cards the asus 1080 ti turbo gaming edition and the asus 1080 ti strix rog. The first question has to do with how much of a lottery is it really will i be able to get the turbo from the 1582mhz to the 1708mhz on the strix? Second is how different is the the 6 and 8 pin delivery of the turbo to the 2 8 pins of the strix? The turbo is 700 usd at my microcenter which the the least expensive non reference card i could find all the other ones are 80 - 100 usd more is it worth the difference. OR Should i just go with the one with the highest clock out of the box that has a compatible block does that give me the best chance at the highest most consistent overclock? Keep in mind money isn't really the issue with this i just don't want to waste it if its not going to make a significant difference.

First answer: since you're going to be overclocking the GPU anyway, I don't think stock clock really matters.

 

Second: The real difference is in power draw and delivery(to my knowledge)

If yuo already planning a custom loop I'd just buy the MSI EK SEA Hawk cards, they F beautiful and will OC better than any Reference with a Water block as MSI will change power and stuff around.

yeah ive checked which cards ekwb covers so i have some options aside from the reference edition cards

This is going to seem very nit picky of me but i dont like the red msi logo on the backplate it doesnt match the color scheme im going but while i admit my current understanding of the subject is limited something with the same number (whatever the name of the power delivery modules are) and pins for power should preform the same the biggest concern i have is how wide of a margin do the cards vary from chip to chip overclocking head room wise i've heard cases where people have only gotten 30mhz (admittably thats a really unlucky and rare occurance) I would like to attempt 2000mhz cause im going od with the rads

whats your color scheme, aslobackpates ae notimportant, they do not bring any benefits outside of the asthetics, so plastitip it ltt style?

But you are not OP. And if he is playing 1080p 60 Hz then it would be super overkill. I asked for a reason, not for someones random opinion.

i was just sayiing, what if he wants an ultrawide or something,or if he wants more fps, or make it last longer

For that matter, the 1080Ti Armor should still be a lower priced custom PCB perfect for watercooling due to the sub-par stock cooler.
