Hi,

I currently own HP Proliant DL360 server with HP p400i RAID controller. Unfortunately my RAID battery is almost completely dead and cost of new battery is an equivalent of around 10 of those RAID controllers.

What's more it has only 256MB of cache and 3TB limit, that's why I'm thinking about an upgrade. What better/newer RAID controller could fit in DL360 server in place of p400i?

Edit:

Maybe it will help, but server is running Windows Server 2012 R2, and around 20 VMs on VMware.

Your best option would be to create a backup your your drive as well as a entire image backup first. Take the drives out of raid mode and then look for a new controller that meets your requirements. When you got what you want, than recreate the raid array.

It's a lot more difficult to transfer hardware raid because not all cards are the same. Want to keep your existing raid, then you will have to buy the same exact card or have no choice but to get that battery.

Swapping RAID controllers is not a problem for me, been there, done that :). Just asking for recommendations for something that can fit in p400i space and provide better performance.

I looked up that HP Proliant DL360 server and it seems to be some 1u unit and the raid card diagram shows it's full height. My guess is, your raid card is laying on its side, inside your server? Then just find the best raid card for your price range.

I know you might not be able to order from this site, but you can use this to help you out.

Back in the days, the must have brand for raid cards was Adaptec. Then came others like LSI.  Newest SAS specs is up to 12Gb/s
