I've just upgraded one of my monitors to a 1440p G-Sync 144HZ monitor and i'm finding it hard to get higher than 70FPS in any game at 1440p (other than Overwatch and League)

I like maxing graphics in every game I play(List below) and I LOVE 1440P G-sync 144hz, it's a huge upgrade from 1080p 60hz and i'm not willing to go back.

I play:

PUBG

LoL

Overwatch

World of Warcraft

Planetside 2

Rainbow Six: Siege

Warframe

Workstation tasks include:

Occasional streaming (6700k just drops so many fucking frames lol)

Heavy browsing (I have literally about 40 tabs open at a time in Chrome)

Multiple games running at once - I multibox in WoW so I end up running more than 1 client at once.

One other thing, is I want it to look like i've spend the money; my current build looks great but it's a bit too "red"  so, yes, call me stupid, but I want to kit out on tempered glass and RGB. As such, I've gone with the 570X but i'm open to other cases as it's expensive and from what I hear flawed in many ways, but i LOVE the look.

I don't want to "cheap out" on any components at all.

Anything else is subjective! I'm decided on the 1080Ti and  8700k pretty much, but if there's a better option let me know.

Let me know if there's anything you'd change: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/4YWL8K

EDIT: Changed the GPU to a Asus watercooled GPU, not too much more expensive.

EDIT: I'm stupid and didn't realise Asus Poseidon is a hybrid

I have no input on the build since I don't play any of those games & the vapor-like status of Coffee Lake supply, but just wanted to say make sure you can find a later revision of that case that includes the cutout in the shroud. Oh and if you have modding/DIY skills, make a cover for the PSU shroud.

Does a later revision exist?

such a solid build & you know what you are doing pretty well :P i assume you have storage in hand to reuse already, otherwise maybe get a 3tb drive. btw give it a nice nickname after you finish build :D

Defo will give it a nickname! And yeah I have researched ALOT the past few months, mostly because I find hardware interesting.

As for 3tb, while it seems overkill I don't really need it. My current rig has a 240GB ssd which still has 40gb on it and a 1tb HDD which still has 500gb, i'd never use 3TB.

Yes. I've built in it. It's a minor, but welcome tweak that will make routing easier.

Could you be specific? I've watched alot of reviews of the 570X, does it include cutouts in the half-PSU shroud, anythign else?

PUBG?

Back in the old days, it's just PUB, where people drink their problems away. Now it's PUBG? Is this some new hipster way of spelling PUB with a G at the end?

And what is LoL?

I LoL when I play LoL cause it's good to LoL.

You realize the 1080ti Poseidon is a hybrid cooler? If you don't intend on using the water cooling aspect you might save money getting something a bit more modest

Personal build >  New-ish AMD main gaming setup

PLEASE QUOTE OR @ ME FOR A RESPONSE xD

Remove the WD M.2 SSD and get a standard 2.5" one. M.2, then get a PCIe like the Samsung 960 Evo or Pro.

I would do that if I change the case, however because it's the 570X i'd rather lose the 2 wires for an M.2, makes it a bit neater.

I'm definitely open to offfers for a different case!

The WD Blue isn't that good. I would change it to the MX300 or 850 Evo.

You can get a HDD with 3 times the capacity for £10 more.

Why the Poseidon? The point of it is that it has water cooling capabilities without needing a water block. Otherwise, something like the Strix should do.

Why the RM750x? 550-650W is enough, and personally, I don't get the feeling of premium when I see an RM series PSU. That one is subjective, though.

Have you considered X299? The 7800X actually costs less than the 8700K, and the 7820X costs ~£150 more. An X299 motherboard costs around the same as the Maximus Hero. You'll get the benefit of more upgradability, and more RAM slots for the RGB RAM.

:)

Then get a Samsung 960 Evo or Pro. that WD one is just SATA, which is a waste when being used with a M.2 connector. And you're adding a HDD, so that case should have at least 2 drive bays, one for your SSD and the other for the HDD.

Interesting, what HDD is that? Does it sacrifice speed at all from the WD Blue?

I'll consider changing the PSU, what's your reccomendation?

lastly, not really interested in X299. The 8700k is, iirc, noticeably faster than the 7800X, and I wouldn't upgrade just a CPU.

The HDD is this one. As it's a 7200 RPM HDD with 64MB cache, there won't be a noticeable difference in the speed.

I would either save some money, and get a cheaper 550-650W unit, or if I wanted to be fancy, I would get a Seasonic Prime Platinum or Titanium. But tbh, getting a really nice PSU is money down the drain, compared to just getting a less expensive G3, RMx, Focus Plus, etc.

The 8700K overclocks better than Skylake, and has some more cache, but it won't be significantly faster. The 7820X is an 8 core option, if you want to spend more for whatever reason.

:)

Having < 15% free on a drive, especially an ssd, is going to mean poorer performance.

Frame drops in streaming are often due to storage performance.

While some like using SATA III M.2 drives, I like to reserve the connectors for NVMe drives.

Given that you apparently need less than 750GB total storage, you might consider going with a 1TB ssd. 2TB would be nice if the budget could take it.

You might consider more memory if the budget can handle it.

If you haven't seen https://www.asus.com/campaign/aura/us/Sync.html yet, the page includes a number of attractive Aura Sync compatible cases.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
