Hello guys!
Was wondering if anyone could help me with my issue with my I7 4790k.
So basically if i'm not wrong at stock it's supposed to run at 4.0Ghz. Recently tried to OC it and came up with the problem that it never goes higher than 2.60Ghz. At least that's what the CPU-Z says and also IETU says the same. Although in bios it shows a differrent picture so i got confused!
the motherboard i'm using is GIGABYTE Z97X-Gaming 3

Added some pics.

Thanks in advance!

If this is your Idle temps in Bios : image.png.f74f06d5347f5a4dd40143e1dac0b734.png

Then its probs because its throttling straight away, what are you trying to cool it with ?

Also Jesus Christ your Voltage is high for basic 200mhz overclock

No. That's normal temp while in BIOS.

Check Power Management in Windows to see if CPU max allowed power state is set to less than 100%

Try disabling Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology, CPU C-States and CFG lock.

I'm cooling it with some aftermaket radiator dont remember its name though, but its not stock!
ahh the Voltage is that high probably because i have changed some settings there, forgot to set it to defaults before i took a pic.

Not on mine it isnt lol Never go past 28 ?

Also for 4.6 thats a HUGE Voltage.

My 4770k never goes above 75°C at load yet BIOS always reports almost 50°C. Also Gigabyte motherboard.

Voltage is fine as well.

Personally I hate Gigabytes click bios setup. It's garbage. I use their "classic" mode to enter my values.

Your voltage is definitely on the high side to me, I know every chip is different but over 1.35 is 4.9Ghz territory for my chip. About 1.26-28 is the 4.6 average that I've experienced.

I have had the exact same problem you're experiencing with my Z87X UD3H, and I resolved it by resetting to defaults and starting over from there in Classic mode.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Where do I find the CFG lock?

Not sure how it is on Gigabyte boards, or if its called the same, refer to your manual :) Gigabyte might not have CFG lock for all I know
