I'm planning on doing a complete system overhaul to my amd fx based gaming pc (finally......) now i don't care about multitasking or synthetic benchmark performance, Which cpu should I get, i7 8700k or R7 1700x? I only care about overclocking and gaming performance (gaming moreso than overclocking) can only spend like $380 max

I personally would get an i7-8700K(others will almost certainly disagree, but that's just my honest opinion)

Well the 8700k then as the ryzen cpus are far weaker on both fronts

I say that because there are bound to be AMD fanboys here that will say Ryzen is superior, but thanks for the reassurance!

no ryzen was very much worth it before the coffee lake launch because it brought performance at much lower prices but intel freaked out and launched 3 SKU of their new line to keep their crown. and since they added cores at all levels the i5 are now better than the R5 and same for i3 as long as you can clock them up because intel kneecaps their lower ends chips with stupid low clocks just to make the i7 worth it. but their top chip was always the best gaming option
