save then sell your 970 and buy a better card like a used 1080 or something

I've been looking around at used parts because I'll be building a budget PC for a friend soon, and I found a GTX 970 for $170. I currently have a GTX 970 and have no problems running any of the games I play at 1080p, although I occasionally dip into the high 40s on highly modded or high player-count servers. 

Would it be worth it to buy a second GTX 970 for $170 and run them in SLI to gain some extra performance even if I don't need it now? Would I be better off saving the $170 if I don't need the second card and instead putting it towards a new card farther down the line when I actually do need something new?

you can check if the games you play scale with sli, if they do then it's up to you whether that's worth it, if not save your money for a better card to replace your current 970

Nope, because you could get a 980ti for around $200. Or used to before mining and SLI iz ded

It's nice, I sold my 1070 for 500 CAD and bought an i7 860 + amazing P55 mobo for $140, r9 290x for $240, an AX 860 for 150 and to top it off a free case.  

 

$20 extra over my 1070 and now I've got a full PC that runs within 25% of my main one. (1700 + 1070)
