Im curious about one situation im in at the moment,so i find this place to ask the question.

Its more like common question but i dont know it still im new in this pc things,

So lets say i have some decent CPU(its not important which one is it),and trash gpu.Im playing game and testing with msi afterburrner and get like 30-40% CPU usage and 100% gpu usage so its obvious GPU bottleneck.

My question is will CPU usage jump up when i get some high end GPU or will stay the same no mather what GPU im gonna instal,BTW i tested like changing resolutioon and graphic details in game and still the CPU is around that number 30-40%.

the GPU cant push enough frames so the CPU sitts and waits, if your GPU can push more frames the CPU will wait less and once the GPU can push more frames then the CPU can handle there will be a CPU bottleneck instead. getting a better GPU will see that CPU usage riseing

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

most of the time the cpu will never be @100% usage in games, bottleneck is just when one component causes other components to slow down due to it not doing its job fast enough, if you have a decent cpu and a good gpu your gpu will most times be upwards of 90% usage and the cpu will be under 40% usage just because the cpu is not 100% doews not mean it has a bottleneck

I7 7700K @5.0ghz, Asus Z270-P, Corsair H115i, hyperX 16gb, Asus duel 1070, Nzxt H440

Your CPU usage will go up.

Stronger GPU --> it can produce more fps --> more fps, that the CPU has to prepare before delivering it to the GPU.

Depending on what is displayed, the CPU will be demanded more, or less. sometimes, in some areas you have a CPU bottleneck, while all other areas of a game are GPU Bottlenecked

I have an i7 6700k, still one of the best Gaming CPUs you can have today. But Walk through Witcher 3 Novingrad City... sometimes i see all 8 threads at 95%+.

Or AC Syndicate, at the beginning. Also, quite high CPU usage

Resolution changes have NOTHING to do witH CPU usage. The CPU calculates the exact same thing. It's the GPU only, that makes the date into any resolution.

Things like Object number displayed, Distance draw, shadows are taxing the CPU.

Also, it depends with your GPU kinda..

If you have a 4k resolution, and your GPU can only deliver 40 fps.. your CPU won't have a high usage. it can deliver 40 fps easy peasy.

If you go back to 1080p, your GPU suddenly manages to deliver 130 fps. But now, your CPU has to deliver 130 fps too --> high usage.

well thanks for the clear info,

you are mentioning some good info,i wanna be more clear about my game.

Its about dota 2 and i know its not a demanding game and needs a little but im on a tight budget at the moment because i need to buy gpu and monitor,so im worried that my i3 4170 cant handle the 1060 3gb.Most of you always saying get the 1060 for dota 2 for future prorf or sth like that.

My plan is to play this game on 144fps stable and i dont realy care about some graphic effects ,all i care is 1080p resolution and 100% render thats all.

So i need to decide these days about to buy gtx 1060 or less,im worried that my cpu cant handle the 1060 so should i go with like 1050 or 1050ti.

If i already got the monitor i will deffinetly go for the 1060 but in this situations i cant decide,in my country the hardware is almost twice from amazon and newegg and that retailers dont ship to my country.

Be clear and give me some advice pls .

Go for the gtx 1060.

Don't worry about bottlenecks. As long as the performance looks/feels, (which it will) you're fine.

You're CPU will preform fine.
