So as you all probably know, google decided to have the bright idea to get rid of the headphone jack.....this...sucks...a lot. Especially because when I'm listening to something, chances are it's youtube, and I'm charging my phone because I'm waiting and I don't want the battery to die. GUESS WHAT can't do that anymore. I want a pixel, and my phone is at the end of it's life. I was going to get the first pixel but decided to wait it out another year.....my current phone doesn't have another year in it's life and I have no intention on getting a different phone because I don't like their various "features" (especially samsung, most of my family uses them and I absolutely hate the changes they do to it)

anyways, anyone know of a good usb c y cable that lets me charge and listen to music? I found a few on amazon, but they all have poor reviews claiming it doesn't work the way it should.

I'm not looking for phone recommendations, I just want the cable.

Due to the nature of the port, you can only charge at 500mA when trying to listen to music and charge at the same time. That's why you don't really see the adapters out there. It'd be super, super slow at charging and no one would buy them.

Instead of trying to find an adapter, my advice is to just buy a super fast charger. The Pixels support USB PD up to 27w. The supplied charger is only 18w.

if it's anything like the nexus line, it comes with a super fast charger (well, fast enough, throwing more power kills batteries faster) and I want to watch youtube while I charge my phone while I wait to board my flight. I don't want to kill my battery and then not charge my phone because the flight lacks outlets.

It really doesn't cause that much damage to the battery. Before, sure, but technology has advanced past that. The device wouldn't support 27w charging if it was detrimental to the device. It comes with a slower charger than you can get. So getting a faster charger would help. You don't really have any other solution. You can read more on the limitations here.

I think it'll be another year or two until we see someone come out with a decent adapter.

Probably not a popular option but you could just get an adapter to make your headphones Bluetooth.

Get a set of Bluetooth earpiece/cans

Or a Bluetooth reciever if you want to use what you currently have

Btw if your qualm with other phone brands lies with the OS, you can just install a clean custom rom from XDA. Both generations of Pixel devices are remarkably unremarkable as far as hardware goes (apart from the camera)

I don't want bluetooth, my headphones are already pretty expensive, I have no interest in muddying the audio with wireless/worrying about another thing I have to charge on long flights.
