Coffee lake i5 or i7 for project cars 2

I am planning on building a system for playing Project cars 2, and I am unsure which CPU I should buy (coffee lake i5, or i7). I also need the higher clock speeds of intel for other applications, so Ryzen is out of the question. If you have a CPU with at least 12 threads, and project cars 2, can you test to see how much performance you lose switching between 6 and 12 threads? for reference I will be running triple monitors on a 1080ti.

Thanks in advance!!

that those resolutions, you're going to be more GPU dependant than CPU. and if it's only going to be used for PC2, the 8600K will be fine.

Intel i5-6600K@4.2GHz, 16GB Crucial DDR4-2133, Gigabyte Z170X-UD3, Be quiet shadow rock slim, Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC, Fractal design Integra M 550W, NZXT S340, Sandisk X110 128GB, WD black 750GB, Seagate momentus 160GB, HGST 160GB

I'd go 8700K as the 1080 Ti bottlenecks on pretty much everything so I'd reduce the CPU limitation as far as possible

He never said anything about the resolution.

No it doesn't.

OP- no idea. Depends on your budget/currency, the rest of your specs, etc. For Project Cars 2 specifically, it seems to scale pretty well up until a fairly modern quad core. So, last 2 generation i5s are still solid(and out-perform all Risen thanks to IPC), so an i5-8600K, or even 8400 would be fine. That said, an 8700k will obviously be better and it appears that Project Cars 2 will be able to utilise at least some of the 6 extra threads fairly well.

triple display resolutions, anything greater than 5760x1080 these days, and that's getting close to the same pixel count as 3840x2160, which we all know is a pig to drive and with the exception of dual cores, it's almost always bound by the GPU.
