Need recommendations to improve audio

Hi,

I'm using an ATH-MX with a modmic 5, the built in sound card in my PC seems to be fine but my mic seems to be needing some software adjustments to make it louder. Any recommendations on how to improve my sound experience? should i use a DAC or buy a better sound card? probably like a 100$-200$ budget

Are you sure microphone volume in recording panel is at 100percent? Also are u plugged into the motherboard and not a front case header? Then there is a mic output volume on whatever voice program you are using. Modmic is easy and should work fine with onboard.   If there is actual static or hiss on mic a cheap usb to 3.5mm dongle will fix that.
