Which CPU is Better?

Go to solution Solved by Vitalius,

get Haswell if you are building a new rig and for gaming i5 4670K for rendering or more i7 4770K

I disagree with this.

Get a 3570k if you are getting a new rig. I don't see the point in getting a K (unlocked) processor with Haswell if you don't need it, considering the VRM are on the chip itself, which make or breaks (often breaks) overclocking potential. I mean, from what I've read and heard, you can expect 4.2GHz from a 4670k. Whereas you can expect 4.5GHz from a 3570k.

Other than that, there is no difference. In fact, the 4670k tends to tie with the 3570k in most applications, and sometimes the 3570k wins. I just don't see a point in getting a 4670k other than "because it's new". Because it isn't better, and if it isn't worse, it ties. :| Unless I'm just horribly misinformed by all the reviews and such that I've read.

Edit:

Also, as for sockets, the next Intel line-up will be the same socket, but the motherboards will be different because the VRMs will no longer be on the Chip. Meaning you will need new motherboards regardless. So both sockets for the 3570k and 4670k are dead. That is not a difference thusly. As per this post.

if your building a new system you should go with haswell. The i5 4670k.

Edit: of course the i7 4770k would be faster but in games you dont really notice any difference

yeah but socket 1155 is kinda dead so there isnt much he could upgrade to. also a 4.5ghz 3570k is around as fast as a 4.2ghz 4670k.

For more gaming than anything else, go with the i5. If you do a fair bit of video work, get the i7.

Well, the 4670k only barely edges out the 3570k FRACTIONALLY.  Plus it has a lower TDP.  Socket 1155 isn't really dead, and the only thing you can upgrade haswell to is broadwell, which is mainly going to be a mobile processor in the first place, designed to have a lower tdp for ultrabooks and tablets.  This info comes from wikipedia.

Hmm, I forgot about socket life-time. Nevermind. Listen to them. I'm dumb.

I was right. No difference.

Hey I have been a little confused on which CPU is better it is between the Intel Core i5-3550k or the i7-3770k. My friend told me I should get the i5 but I don't know if it's worth it because the i7 is just $50 more. I washoping somebody can help with this.

Thanks

No difference. Unless you want to buy a H100i to OC your i7-3770k. Or you've a powerful Graphic card then go for the i7.

Socket LGA1155 is indeed dead but all Socket LGA1150 motherboards are also a dead end, since you need a 9 series chipset for next generation Broadwell CPUs.

Even though broadwell will use the same LGA 1150 socket, the 8 series motherboards we have are not compatible due to an electrical change that Broadwell requires, has to do with Intel removing the VRMs from the CPU and putting them back on the boards.

So it really doesn't matter a 3570K or a 4670K both are on dead platforms.

I'd say the 3770k. I was also going to get the i5, the 3570k as my machine was purely for gaming, but I spent that little more on the i7. It really does perform well and It's really good for recording gameplay..

I record pretty much all of my games at a solid 60fps
