This is not my main machine.

Privacy goal definition: Can't trace connection back to user.

I would have bought one from https://puri.sm/ but it's out of my target price range. However, anything closer to what purism offers in terms of privacy security, is welcome.

minimalistic and value: Goal: Surf webpages through tor. No need to run html5 or flash videos; no video games. I'm only willing to pay more to avoid losing more time on loading times than it's worth.

As long as it works and is reasonably durable, idc about bells and whistles.

100ms longer waiting times: ok

250ms longer waiting times: ok

5s longer waiting times: this is what I want to avoid.

in other words, there is ZERO interest in having a ''leet gpu'' ''just in case I want to play w.e'' I won't.

So the best value computer with the minimum that I need (if it costs the same and has more, no problem).

extra: Portability, limited weight, is a plus.

There are two alternatives: I will take recommendations for both.

1. Laptop for Tails (lower system requirements claimed)

2. Whonix (higher system requirements claimed). Obviously this one will also be able to run Tails.

location: QC, Canada. currency: ($CAD)

I am new to both of these platforms and think tails is easier. However I dislike that with TAILS I can't do tor over vpn to obfuscate tor use from the local network.

I'll take anything of use. For example:

How to look for what to look for.

What to look for.

What to buy and where to buy.

CPU: Ryzen 5500 GPU: RX 6800 RAM: DDR4 3200MHZ 48GB (2x8+2x16 GB)  MOBO: MSI B450-A PRO Display: 4k120hz with freesync premium.

You are starting at the wrong place with your decision-making, it's not about the specs, it's about the acquisition and usage.

I will only tell you that you can find all the answers for how to be properly anonymous and private from existing internet sources. Because I can't confirm your legitimacy, that's all I will tell you. If you need/want it badly enough, then you will find them without me telling you.

Spoiler

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

Just as @VenomZ_ said. I ain't building/recommending for someone as shady as you. :)

You should both know that there are plenty of legitimate reasons for wanting privacy and anonymity. Throwing accusations of being evil-minded are unacceptable. Please account for the possibility of legitimacy in future posts.

'Plenty of legitimate reasons'. Oh I think that could be true, but I'd rather just avoid shady things such as Tor. Don't feel offended I'm just saying that if this is going to get some cocaine dealer shot up - I don't want a part of it, if this is going to be used for looking at '***** ***********' then I don't want a part of it. It could be used for innocent things, I agree. But I'm not taking that chance on my conscience thank you.

Personally you cannot be achieve 100% anonymity, if someone wants to find you and they have enough money they will.

You can force them to have the funds and power of multiple combined governments to find you if you're unstupid enough.

No drugs. So let me refocus: What good value laptops to buy that will comfortably run tail os and whomix.

[Sarcasm alert] Of course, it's to buy a McNuke! from Rapture smugglers.McNuke.png.eaffe7b1a1720ad9ebe22ae65fcc323f.png

1. You dont need tails or whonix to use tor. These are systems made for non-technical people.

2. You just need something compatible with linux. When I look at laptops, I go to the driver section of OEM website and look at the wifi chipset. I look for a chipset that has drivers built in to the kernel because it is a pain in the arse, a catch 22, to have to require the internet to get drivers to use the internet.

Lol. I've used Tor before, both in my laptop and phone even just for casual web browsing. Some of us just prefer our ISPs and government don't see everything we do on the internet. Why? Well they aren't 100% transparent with me, so why should I be with them?

And for the record... I've only gotten 2 people shot using Tor, and the first one was by accident.
