Upgrading to Ryzen from FX

Ryan_1998

Right so about time to finally upgrade my shitty pre built pc from AM3+ FX 4350 to a Ryzen 5 1600 build with a GTX 1060 (already purchased).

Any suggestions / adive for this build as it will be basically a complete new PC, as all I will be keeping is my SSD, GPU and fans (rip $)

I also need help choosing a power supply thats decent and will be long lasting and wont start smoking.

Later down the line I plan to buy another 8GB DDR4 ram stick, not too sure about what ram was worth the hefty prices.

Current build ish- https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/YKYG9W

I don't see anything there that screams "poor value" or "bad idea". The Seasonic S12II and M12II, along with the Corsair grey-label CX and CXM series, go on sale for $25-40 on Newegg constantly. The CX450 is $25 after MIR in the States right now. Not sure if you get the same kind of deals over there, but those four PSU lines are your best bets for getting good quality on a tight budget.

One note: if your mobo doesn't come with BIOS 0902 preloaded, make sure to update it right away. I don't know what ASUS did to the BIOS exactly beyond AGESA 1.0 0.6b, but my RAM is now stable at 3200MHz with 14-14-14-34 timings, and my CPU is running 3.8GHz at a slightly lower voltage and temperature. Maybe it's a placebo effect, no idea, but 0902 seems to have made a difference.

I have both the CX450M and a 620W M12II. Haven't used the M12II much (got it for my new build), but the CX450M powers my i5 and 980 Ti just fine.

I'll echo. I've got a CX550M, an M12II EVO 520W and an M12II EVO 620W. I've never had a problem with any of them.

Yeah, I built a PC with the old CMx series, and the CXm (how confusing Corsair) is pretty similar. Even the VS series is miles ahead of other shitty PSUs for only $10 more, I know some people warn people constantly to avoid them, but most low end PCs work well with them.

Yours faithfully

The issue I have with the VS is that if you wait a week, you'll be able to get a much better Seasonic or a CX/CXM for about the same price.

assuming you have weekly income.... Some people come to me with OEM style budgets, just looking for a better than OEM, they don't care if the CX is a little better, they just want an i5 system for the price of an i3 system.

Hey, my go-to "I need a PSU right now" solution is to go down to Best Buy and get an EVGA 600W 80+ white for $35. I'm not going to judge you for going slightly sketch.

In Ireland, there are no best buys, or low prices like that, comparative PSUs here are €60

The shop must charge an extra €5 on top of that then.

Yes there are shipping fees from Newegg when in the UK. You won't save much if anything. Stick to UK based stores.

It looks to be worth it if I was just to order this bundle from Newegg-

Are all taxes and import duties being accounted for? There may also be a customs brokerage fee.

BTW, instead of a screen shot use the [bb] button in pcpartpicker then copy & paste the result into your post.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
