What is going to be better Ryzen 1600x or i5 8600K?

I was wondering because I will be getting a PC and was wondering if I should wait till coffee lake or get a Ryzen 1600x? I know people don't know a lot about the new intel processors yet, but I was just wondering.

If Coffee Lake is Kaby Lake with different core configuration and no other change, then 8600k is faster because in single thread tasks because of higher clock speed. In multi thread though they should be similar, if the Intel chip isnt slower because Ryzen has SMT.

 

But probably you shouldnt buy either chips because a) Ryzen 1600 is the preferred one and b) 8600k is expected to retail at $250 but 1600 costs below $200. Not to mention the Z370 mobo is more expensive than a B350 one.

1600x all the way, also z370 is a dead on arrival chipset with no upgrade path to speak of, and am4 will be supported until 2020, z370 will be replaced next year around Q2,

Depends on your use. purely gaming the 8600k will get you better FPS (at 1080p and maybe 1440p, they're about matched at 4k)

For anything that takes advantage of multithreading like editing, streaming, the 1600(x) wins.

We can't know for sure right now, and most likely it will depend on what sort of application you're running.

 

The rule of thumb is: if you can, wait and see. If you can't, get what satisfies your needs now.

Well... 1600 all the way really. It's basically the same thing as the 1600X once you overclock, it just costs less and comes with a cooler.

1600X is only if you know you wanna overclock over 3.9GHz

8600K+Z370 will be significantly more expensive but will perform slightly better in games.

If you wanna play 1080P 144Hz then Intel.

 

Don't buy Apple M1 computers with 8GB of RAM

it will depend on him, as 1600xs oc better on average, and if he doesn't overclock is faster out of the box

even then the difference is small around the 10% mark, which isn't a deal breaker at all

8600K should be faster, same amount of cores and threads, but the 8600K has better IPCs and a higher clock, But it will cost more.

The 8600k isn't multithreaded, so its only 6 core

8600k doesnt have hyper threading. In multi-threaded tasks it will fall behind despite its clock speed advantage.
