Hello Everyone,

I have some very specific questions about anti aliasing.

I know that anti aliasing is very demanding on a graphics card, but I want to run it on a CAD software.

Does anyone know if integrated Intel graphics can do so.

If yes at what level (2x, 4x etc.).

Please keep in mind I do not want to run games or video editing, I am a mechanical engineer and only run CAD softwares (Which in some cases are more demanding....)

My Computer Specs (university laptop) :-

  1. Intel i5 6200u
  2. Intel HD 520 IG
  3. 16 GB RAM
  4. CAD softwares run from an m.2 SSD

Just enable it and see how it does? It really depends on your projects and on how many things have to be processed.

I run my Catia with maximum settings (lol) but that's also on a (shitty) quadro and an quad core xeon.

It varies really on what software your running since many such as solidworks are solely CPU based if you rendering or not using real view. I would recommend to step up to a quad core if your doing a lot of work related to CAD design.

I am precisely running PTC Creo and SOLIDWORKS, and may start CATIA

Also please tell me about FEA analysis software like Ansys

Not sure about FEA softwares since I've never ran them but for CAD such as solidworks and CATIA they are heavily CPU based, just having a basic card or using dedicated graphics usually is alright for basic modeling work as long as it keeps up. The only time that graphics really plays a role is if your say using real view which is basically live generated graphics but that requires a workstations graphics in the first place.

I think you will just need sufficient memory for CAD.

OK,

One final doubt

When you say heavily CPU dependent, I rarely see 100% CPU usage, only during rendering something like a knurled pattern or a helical sweep with pitch 0.5

Do I really need a quad core CPU now ?

That's only if you do rendering, for basic modeling you won't have a problem. Only thing that might be a little sluggish is the integrated graphics if you have highly complex 3D assemblies.
