Oculus Rift vs cheap vr

there are mobile phone based vr as cheap as $4usd. im tempted to get one, but afriad of generating more electronic waste.

how do they compare to pc connect vr? why is the price gap so large?

What cheap pc connected vr is there? with/ without controllers..

Devices like the Rift and Vive has far superior tracking in a 3D space, assuming your mobile based solution can do it at all.

At the moment, the cheapest you'll find is Oculus' ongoing sale where the Rift + 2 sensors + touch controllers are going for $500.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

A couple of days ago, I tried running my phone in a cheapo VR headset connected to my gaming rig using USB monitor software. It was kind of a cool experience, but the lag was extreme. It lasted 5mins before I was bored of it.

I haven't tried a vive or rift, mainly due to price, but I think the price difference exists for a reason.

Dedicated VR is much better than mobile VR. I've got a few Google Cardboard headsets and they are fun, but they don't compare to the Rift or the Vive (and after using both I recommend the Rift over the Vive unless you have a specific reason for the Vive).

Vive is better for large play spaces (over 3M x 3M)

Vive only requires 1 x USB 3.0 port for room scale (Base stations plug into wall power) instead of 3 x USB 3.0 and 1 x USB 2.0 for a rift 3 camera setup

Vive fits larger glasses if you need them or dislike contacts.

Vive is better if you are into development and want to experiment with extra tracking pucks etc.

Rift Touch controls are more comfortable in most situations (Valve has new knuckles controls in Dev kit stage that will solve this)

Rift has God Ray (Lines of light that come off of high contrast images) while vive has more of a fuzzy halo around high contrast images.

Rift has built in headphones and better strap.  Vive has the deluxe audio strap which makes them comparable but ads an extra $140 CAD to the already more expensive kit. (Get the DAS if you get the Vive).

If none of those are considerations and you just want to play games the experience of the Rift and Vive is very similar.
