I'm Confused

So I have this Seagate Barracuda Hard drive from 2010 and I wanted to see if it can fit in any cases since they can carry 3.5 in. hard drives but when I measure mine it seem sto be 4 in.  Is this a mistake in my measurement or will I need to get a new hard drive?

3.5" is the radius of the disks inside. That's a 3.5" drive.

 

For all intents and purposes, there are only TWO sizes of drives -- 2.5" (which is about 1/6th the total volume of a 3.5" drive, and 3.5" drives (which is that).

3.5" doesn't refer to the platter enclosure, so you are alright.

That drive will work in any case designed for 3.5" drives.

It's a 3.5" drive. Don't worry about why, it just is.

Yeah @SolidRedIron, it is the size of the platters inside the disk that makes it a 3.5" disk. now you can rest easy and get all the bad man's data off it....let us know the juicy stuff.....we won't tell.

It means the metal plates inside are 3.5 inch in radius. So with the casing on it it will be bigger

I knew that I shouldn't have used a ruler with a name of a company on it.  Now I'm going to hate myself for using a company's name (probably should have censored it).
