m.2 screw stripped, cant unscrew.

so i have an old laptop that i want to take an m.2 ssd out of to save me some money. i cant break the laptop to get it out but the screw is stripped and im unable to unscrew it.

any tips on how i could get around or fix this

Grab the top with pliers, then screw it off.

how stripped, iv heard of people placing a piece of rubber between the screw head and the screwdriver and being able to do it that way

or try putting a rubber band overtop of the head if there is a little bit left so it fills in the space

Take a rubber band and put it into the stripped head between the screwdriver and screw, that should help it get grip. If that doesn't work you can carefully cut a small flathead cut into the screw to remove it with a flathead screwdriver. If all else fails you can get a stripped screw removal bit which has reverse threads on it to dig into the screw.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Place screwdriver into screw add some glue and let it dry. Then try to unscrew it? M.2 screw is extremely thin, so you'll have to be extra careful when using tools, it can damage your SSD.

Does your M.2 uses a stand off on the bottom? Yes, then try to unscrew it from there. This will scratch your SSD, but at least it should let you remove it from your laptop. Once it's out, you can then separate it by unscrewing the standoff, instead of the screw.

For anyone facing the same issue (I was, on a brand new MSI laptop) I managed to unscrew that damn hard screw by placing the rubber band around it and using pliers on it (without the rubber, pliers were uneffective)
