Upgrade or new system entirely?

Auleo

So, I've got this MSI Mobo

And it currently houses a Pentium G4400, 4GB of DDR4-2133 RAM and usual hard drive and the case has a built in PSU. Even has a Optical Drive.

What I want to do with this system that was given to me is toss in a i7-7700K since the socket supports it, and another 8GB of Ram and an GTX 1060 and get it a new Mini ITX case with a 650 PSU

TL;DR is it alright to do the 4gb stick with the 8GB stick or just get two new 8GB sticks; Is the Mobo too "Lame" for lack of better words for the new CPU and GPU and just get a new one? Reason why I would think of doing the 4+8 sticks is I have this thing where my RAM needs to be twice as much as my VRAM (GTX 1060 has 6GB obvi)

If i do need a new mobo I think this would be alright:

Opinions and suggestions very much welcomed, thank you.

you can toss in any CPU that is lga 1151, please don't throw in a K series as you cannot overclock. buy used.

don't forget to update bios before you toss your g4400 out, won't support 7th gen out of the box without bios update.

gpu/ram is fine. a real motherboard upgrade would be h170/h270, or z170/270, which is not worth as long as your motherboard works and has the features you need.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

I would get a 6700 or 7700 non k and keep the old RAM. no problemo.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

so I shouldnt use the 7700K since i dont plan on overclocking or rather dont know how, and I plan on using a Cryorig C7 for the Air Cooling; what processor should i consider instead?

Is the mobo i listed okay? whats your suggestion for a mini-itx?

thanks for the reply

don't get any K sku, no overclocking, and only slightly higher base/turbo for much more

c7 is fine.

stick with your MSI motherboard. no point in upgrading at this point.

8gb minimum, 16gb is nice.

buy a used CPU, 7700 = 6700 with slightly higher base/turbo, not something that matters much.

save lots of $ too, a used i5 6500 is good for gaming.

adding 8gb + 4gb is fine.

Personally, I would wait for the 8600/8600K, and get a new motherboard. It would cost about the same as the 7700 in total, but you will be able to upgrade. 2 more cores as well.

:)

Apparently on October 6th. No, you will need a 300 series motherboard. Alternatively Ryzen 1600. It's not quite as good as the 7700K at gaming, but not far behind. The GPU is more important anyway.
