advice please

i have an old compaq pc it has an athlon x64 and it "features nvida graphics" it looks like an atx motherboard can someone help me to figure out if it atx though i am not completely sure. i want to put make it into a low end gaming desktop for my sister with the athloz x4 and a 1050 please send help thanks

Yikes that's gotta be Socket AM2, that's not going to run a lot. Best CPU you could put in it would be an Athlon 64 X2, and they don't hold up well these days. Putting a 1050 in would be an insult to the 1050.

 

Anyway. Looks like a standard ATX layout to me, can't really see the 24 pin plug but looks like you could transplant it to a standard case with no issues. Or just leave it as is and install any old PCI-E graphics card you can find. A 750 Ti would be a good fit.

no i was going to put a new am4 motherboard in there with the new athlon on the am4 socket

Ahh ok, that's a much better idea. The case should work, but stick to mATX boards because I don't think you could fit a regular ATX board in there.

Either one will work, but the Ti is obviously the better choice if you can get one for a decent price.
