Default font being retarded

So somehow during the installation of some fonts, the forums decided that they should default to Helvetica Neue instead of plain Helvetica, and for me Neueis a good bit harder to read (help changed it to Betty Noir and that was easier for me to read).

 

So what's the dealio here? No matter how many times I inspect element and change the font, the next page I load goes back to Neue. Browser is whatever the latest Chrome is, but even Edge is impacted by this.

under internet explorer i believe that is the general font setting for all browsers.

Everything is normal as far as that stuff goes (if it wasn't, every site would be dickered which isn't the case).

that is really weird, reinstalling chrome wont help anything i guess right?

Since it happens on Edge as well, I'm going to go on the side of nope.

Yep, even on the beta site with both Chrome and Edge.

I believe that is working as intended, but that doesn't mean that the intention was correct. Can you post screenshots showing the difference (I don't have both fonts), and I will consider changing it.

That first font isn't helvetica neue as far as I know, though it might be a font that chrome selects thinking that it's similar. If you install the real helvetica neue (regular weight), I think it should work. I'd be interested to know what it's fallen back to - right click on some of the text and click inspect element, then in the bottom/right pane of the dev tools that open, switch to the computed tab. The rendered font should be listed at the very bottom of the list.

Post-install of the entire Helvetica family (normal, World, and Neue) I must either just be blind as a bat/inspect-elementally-daft, or Chrome/Edge doesn't have the computed tab. So I guess here's the screencap of the styles box (obviously the same story in Edge).

This is what it should look like in Helvetica Neue (as rendered by Safari on macOS):

Switching it to Helvetica results in a barely perceptible change in the glyphs (though their sizes change slightly).

Well the font it seems to use is the bold variant, but it did that even before installing the whole family.
