Don't get the X42. It's a stupid product. Get a nice air cooler, or a decent AiO like the H110i or H115i. They should cost less, or about the same.

You can get better PSUs for the price, albeit without RGB

:)

A good 450 or 550W is totally fine. A typical load for most systems is around 400W anyways. And newer parts tend to be more efficient, and draw less power

Here....?

I think I rather upgrade my gnu instead of making it a sli

I don't need a bracket for the cooler I have now (x42)

Go with a 550W psu then. A Seasonic Focus Gold would be my suggestion.

As mentioned by Seon don't go with the X42. If you want an AIO then get a 240mm minimum. The 120mm/140mm are not good value for money as budget air coolers can match them for less money.

Saying something is fine doesn't mean I'm recommending it. A CX450 is fine for an overclocked 7700K and 1080 Ti during a realistic load. That doesn't imply that I would recommend someone with a $2000 budget to get a $40 PSU. I'm saying it's possible. And it was a hyperbole, to get him to realise that super high wattage PSUs are stupid.

So an x52 would be better?

o.O OK... when giving advice perhaps skip out the hyperbole. Saying that his fan is not needed and a 450w 'is fine' sounds like a recommendation. I'll stand by neither 450 or 550 being a recommended option.

Either way, I'm out before this turns into some weird flame issue or something.

Is 650 good enough then?

For a single GPU system, I still stand by that 550W-650W is perfect. Exceptions of course being HEDT and Vega. The cost difference between 550W and 650W usually isn't that big anyway

:)
