Upgrading CPU

It always depends on whether the game is CPU intensive, but because the i7 2600 was released in 2011, and the GTX 1080 was released in 2016, it might be time for an upgrade. 

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

 

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

 

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

at 1080p maybe BUT do you have anything higher than a 60hz monitor? I would be pretty surpized if that cpu couldnt get atleast 60 fps in most games. Intels ipc is pretty high and you didnt say it was a k sku but if it is overclockable via base clock I would do that. PEOPLE LOVE TO SAY UPGRADE AWAY but if you're not going to use the extra power why spend the money.

At 60hz, probably not.  I had a 4.8GHz+ 2700k and a 1080 ti and it would not bottleneck at 60fps.

If that doesn't satisfy you, get the 8700K when it comes out. If that's too much, get a Ryzen 5 1600.
