While playing Ark with graphics set to Epic my MSI GTX 1080 Armor hit 81c. I am considering getting the NZXT bracket and an AIO for the GPU. I could do a rear mount 120, or a top mount 240. Would 120 be enough? Would 240 be overkill? I already have a Kracken X61 front mounted for the CPU.

imo you made the mistake of buying the Armor card from MSI. They have the Gaming X PCB but having awful cooling. Unless you already had an AIO on hand and the bracket, its just not worth the money, you could have bought the Gaming X varient for 30$ more and would have been fine.

Try changing the fan curve?
Got a good air flow going?
I am not 100% sure changing to 120 AIO will improve the situation, maybe 240 will be better?
Only one application causing you problem? Maybe is that application that is not optimal, maybe you should go on their forum to see if across the board people are having the same issue. If it is the case, changing your cooling might not even improve the situation.

Air flow is good. Rosewill Stryker with 140x2 + 120 intake and 120x2 exhaust. I'll look at raising the curves l.

Get an accelero cooler.

I'm really considering this.

Before you spend Money, and maybe lose Warranty (Although, i read, that you don't lose Warranty with  MSI Cards, as long you replace the Cooler with an equally strong Cooler, or better), try another thing: Undervolting.

Why let your GPU be roasted with 1.05 Volt or something? ^^

Try a "hard Undervolt" for a change :)

My MSI Gaming X (1080 also) can do 0.800 Volt stable with 1823 Mhz.

Maybe yours will only do 1800 Mhz, or 1760 Mhz. try out, what runs stable for you without Freezes :)

Also, Memory from 5000 Mhz to 5500 Mhz (+500 in Afterburner).

My Card went from 215 Watt down to <140 Watt, and Temperature went down by around 10°C under full Load~.

Performance drop, a few single % (Compared to the stock 1.031 Volt with 1961 Mhz, and 5000 Mhz Memory.

Don't even have to get that low.. try 0.850 Volt, or 0.900 Volt, and see how much Mhz you can achieve. 0.9 Volt should work for 1950-2000 Mhz usually~. And still cooler, than "stock"^^

I mean, if you get 1-2fps more with a hard OC, doesnt matter. You won't ever notice that.

But if you get <10 °C temperatures, much lower Noise, and Power consumption, that might be very noticeable, right?

Try that out. If THAT doesn't satisfy you, then maybe look for a different Cooler, like an Accelero.

If you're lucky, that will already be enough for you, and you spend  $0 ^^

Hey thanks man. I'll definitely try undervolting and bumping the VRAM. I like the accelero , but think the fan shrouding looks a bit clunky.
