Overclocking for GT740M

I am about to overclock my GT740m x128bit 2GB DRR3. It never really overheats while gaming, only the CPU does, so I think overclocking won't roast it, but any advice on how many MHz I should add to the Clock? Should I also increase the memory clock or only the Core Clock? I was thinking of boosting it by 100MHz (From 810 to 910MHz). I also just cleaned the fan and added an external cooling pad.

1. Make sure you can do it. Some laptops have locked it fully so you cant overclock it.

 

2. Laptop chips can only go 135MHz on the core (if I recall correctly), which is far from its limit. Push it all the way up.

 

3. How high the memory would hold depends on the quality of chips you get. Start from 50MHz first and add 10Mhz for each successful stability run.

First of all, what's the temps for CPU and GPU in load tests?
Second, some laptop have shared cooling design which means CPU and GPU are cooled together in 1 or more heat pipe. The temperature increase from the GPU will affect the CPU temp too

Also, external cooling pad doesn't help much, undervolting does.

Did as you said. Will not restart and check if it runs games better.

so it black screens? Reset the memory overclock then.

Will now restart* , the Laptop still works. Max GPU temp is 86c, I ran Saints Row: The Third to see if there were any improvements in the Framerate an it looks like it's running just like before OC (Average 24 FPS Maxed Out Direct X 11-12) only setting that I changed is Shadow Resolution (From LOW to HIGH) and FPS is the same as when it was set on LOW so, I presume the Overclocking worked? Not really sure.

Could you identify if the CPU is the one holding it back?

60% on GPU? then how about the CPU? 1.8GHz dual core is weak, but I'm not sure if it will bottleneck a 740m which is also weak.

Used GPU-Z and yes, memory clock is now 900+ MHz Instead of the base 810. I don't see a single FPS improvement in performance, should I blame my CPU for that?
