So someone made a $700 build set for me( kudos you @JDE) and I just want to see everyone's opinion. You're welcome to edit if you want.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4bKTkT

-Budget is $700. This includes everything for a setup. Mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc..

-I plan on using it for animation (i'm a complete newbie), art, internet use, and a bit of gaming

-I'll probably buy this near... the start of 2018

-I want it to last as long as possible..is that possible?

EDIT: IT'S THIS BUILD, PARDON MY MISTAKE https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4bKTkT

If your going to be animating us a 7th gen I7, Ryzen is great for gaming, however when it comes to your needs you need to up the budget a bit and switch to Intel,

Woah, that's er.. different. Doesn't animation require lots of ram? Or is it because I'm a newbie, such requirement isn't necessary?

And I don't think I need that high price of a monitor. $100 is fine...the build is most important.

Pardon me, the way I phrased my post was somewhat confusing. Animation will require a decent amount of RAM. The CPU will yield better performance along with a motherboard that supports overclocking. However, the RAM that is in that PCPartpicker list (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4ZpsGf ) does not actually yield better performance, as there is less of it, and it is slower.

I would advise you to take my build, change the case to something you like, and then add the same RAM that you have in your parts list.

  1. that's a 2x4GB kit on a board with only 2 slots, meaning future expansion would require getting rid of the current 8GB
  2. downgraded, more expensive PSU
  3. downgraded, 2x more expensive monitor
  4. ...generally I'm confused

I realized the RAM issue after I posted, although I believe I've remedied that issue now. As for the PSU, I'm unfamiliar with Corsair's lineup, but I do now see that for $10 and only an additional 50 watts it would be a much poorer value.

The monitor though doesn't even have the price on there though, when I found it, it was going for $99 USD...

Not that, it's the fact that the CX (2017) series is much higher quality.
