How to reuse my laptop microphone?

Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

You connect the black wire (ground) to the base contact of the 3.5mm jack and the red wire on both other contacts ( so that the signal from the microphone cell will show up on both audio channels)

The left one is "universal", the classic . either stereo output or stereo microphone input or stereo line in.

If you use only one contact, the microphone will show up as mono and in some apps you may hear it in only one speaker.

(note in picture above, sometimes in 4 contact audio jacks have mic and ground reversed, there's two different standards. I think the one in picture is how apple used them)

Hi all,

Does anyone know how I can solder up my 2 wire microphone to USB ?

Is this even possible?

You will need a controller in there somewhere to convert the analog signals to digital.

Do you know the pinout of the connector for the laptop microphone?
