BIOS Update?

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

Looks like it has BIOS Flashback. Chip and RAM are not needed.

Easy, Worry-free USB BIOS Flashback
USB BIOS Flashback offers the most convenient way to flash the BIOS ever! It allows overclockers to try new UEFI BIOS versions easily, without even entering their existing BIOS or operating system. It even works without key components such as the CPU and memory installed. Just plug in any USB storage and push the dedicated button for 3 seconds. The UEFI BIOS is automatically flashed using ATX standby power. Worry-free updating for the ultimate convenience!

Tomorrow after noon I am going to buy a second hand motherboard from a guy. It's an AM3+ Board the board is a Asus M5A97 R2.0.

Apparently if the board does not have the correct bios it will not work with some Vishera chips or something, correct?

If it does not have the right bios can I just take a working Athlon 5050e CPU (AM2) and be able to USE the board then update the BIOS so it will work with my FX 4300?

Thanks!

I would expect it to work out of the box. It's post-release chips you have to worry about. The motherboards bios should support the 4300 without issue. In the event that I'm wrong. Check the motherboard manufacture website CPU support list and see if it supports the athlon.

AM3+ and AM2 shouldn't be comparable, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone has hacked it. I don't know if the newer FX chips need a BIOS update, it's been a long time since I fucked around on AM3+. Worse case senario you have to buy the lowest end first AM3+ CPU they made, however the FX 4300 is very low end, at least look for an FX 6300.

Yours faithfully

I have the chip already. Got it from a buddy when he upgraded to an FX 8320.

idk I'd be worth it unless you're on a massive budget, wanna have a challenge or just want an FX CPU system.

This is not my main system. I got an i5 6400 and a GTX 760 right now. Once I get the FX system running I will just sell it to get cash for a 1080.

I had an i5 6400, I remember that chip well, actually I had two. I overclocked one to 4.7GHz....

Yours faithfully
