YouTube - Enabling 4k/60FPS?

Thanks but it didn't work. It just redirected me to the YouTube home page (apparently I was already using the new YouTube). Uploading a 4k/60FPS video still only processed at 1080p/60FPS max.

Give it a few minutes, I had this issue with every new Youtube Update, 4K60fps gets disabled for me, so i visit https://www.youtube.com/testtube again and click "Try New Youtube" then its good to go.

I did also "Sign up to participate in user experience research studies and get rewarded for your time", in the same page, try that too.

I'm curious to know how to enable 1440p/60 FPS and 4k/60 FPS. Apparently there's something that goes on either in the back end or something in the user profile that allows for it, but I haven't gotten any clear indication as to how it works. As of right now, uploading any 1440p/60 FPS or 4k/60 FPS video only gets processed up to 1080p/60 FPS with no options to display any resolution higher, even at 30 FPS.

are you sure you're rendering your videos in 1440/4k? I'm not sure about the 60fps part because that would take a lot of space in the youtube servers.

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

Positive. I have no issue with 30 FPS sources. Also, 4k/60 is indeed a thing, since there are channels out there that have 4k/60 videos.

make sure you videos are rendered at  4k/60fps and not 4k/59.9 fps
I had a similar issue with 1080p.

They are. I manually specify the frame rate in ShotCut before uploading. Like I said, it goes up to 1080p 60 FPS no problem. Anything higher than that and it won't work.

It could be a "popularity" thing as in .. as soon as you get a significant amount of viewers, youtube probably enables 4k for your channel.  maybe your videos are long enough that they'd use a lot of processing time to do 4k versions and maybe they don't want to waste their resources with a channel that has few viewers.

I've tried both mp4 h264 and mp4 h265. Neither of which yields different results.

Yeah, I've also got the feeling it has something to do with channel traffic/subscribers. When I googled how to enable it a little while ago, I found a post on the Google boards saying there's a flag in the YouTube dashboard, but I couldn't find any such thing. The post in question was before the (terrible) YT redesign, so it's either really well hidden, or my channel doesn't have what's required to enable it.

I can upload 4K videos with basically no viewerbase, so it's not that.

It just takes a very long time for options higher than 1080p to appear, if you only uploaded it now, I'd wait at least a few days and check back to see if the options are available.

My 4k 30FPS videos tend to show up within 5-10 minutes after uploading. I always upload a 5 second sample clip to do a quality check. Initially I thought I might just need to give it some time, but after an hour on the 5 second sample 4k/60FPS clip, it still only showed 1080p/60FPS.

I checked back and needless to say, it was more than a few minutes xD

The sample clip I used was 15 seconds @ 30MB, and I had uploaded it just a couple minutes after you posted your comment. When I saw your new reply, I checked back and sure enough, 1440p/60fps. From there I kept refreshing every couple minutes until finally 4k/60FPS showed up. Holy hell, a 45 minute processing time for a 15 second clip is absurd. I can't begin to imagine how long it'll take for some of my 20 minute clips!

Regardless, thank you. I appreciate the help.
