X399 Taichi Question

Hey Linus Tech Tips Community!

I am currently building a Threadripper system, and I am noticing that there is a 4 pin, an 8 pin, and the standard 24 pin power connectors.

My understanding is, they all need to be powered. Would I be correct?

My 850 RGB Thermaltake PSU may not help me to get that all powered, what to do?

buy adapters

I literally just came across a video, and it looks like the top left 4 pin connector is not being powered, only the 24 and the 8 pin on the right.

Am I seeing that right?

Should work fine with the 8 pin for cpu power, think the extra 4 pin is just there for if you were overclocking.

Though I'm not 100% sure the single 8 pin can deliver enough power for that chip under full load, even on stock speeds.

I am using an 850W Thermaltake RGB Gold. That should be more than plenty based on the wattage usage.

I definitely want to overclock. I guess I will find out what will happen, right?

The Zenith has 2x 8 pin connectors. I left one unplugged to see what would happen and got a warning about potential overheating/instability risk.

I assume (heavily assume) that it's the same case on this board. There's also a molex for 3/4 way SLI/Crossfire, but I left that unplugged since I'm only using 2 cards.

the additional 4 pin is there for power delivery and stability in the case of overclocking. its not manditory to plug it in, but you wont get good overclocks
