Graphics card not outputting video

A friend of mine got his RX580 today, he installed the graphics card into the computer without any problems but as mentioned in the title he doesn't get any video output. The computer powers on without a problem, the fans spin and the motherboard outputs video. We couldn't figure out the problem so i decided to come on here to ask if any of you guys had any idea of what the problem might be.

Assuming you can get in to windows with onboard gpu what does device manager see ?

This is going to sound silly. But is the cord running from his computer to the monitor connected to the mobo or the gpu?

Connected to the mobo currently because the video card doesn't output any video

okay but you tried it connected to the GPU right? Because the GPU will only "work" if you connect the display to it.

 

Is the primary VGA set to PCIe in the BIOS?

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Yes we have tried connecting it to the GPU but that does not work, however we haven't checked the bios settings so doing that might be a good idea

Did he upgrade the card? Where did he buy it from? Use DDU to uninstall previous drivers btw.

Form the pics it das not even show up as a pci divce thats missing so i kinde think its dead. maby try a ather pci slot ?

He upgraded from an nvidia card, not sure where he bought the new card from but we did already uninstall the old drivers with DDU

What PSU does he have? Also, are all the power connectors connected?

He has a 500W psu and yes all the power connectors are connected

What PSU specifically? And does it not display at all, or does it display for some time, and then stop as soon as Windows starts?

We're going to check the PSU model in a minute but the graphics card doesn't display anything at all

The PSU is a Turbolink atx-xg500w. Not exactly the best psu but it's what he has.

Chances are, that PSU might not be able to run the card with the system. Got any other PSUs to test with?

Looking at pictures of the PSU online, I don't even see a single PCI-E 6/8 pin power connector -- some higher-end RX-580's even use two PCI-E 6/8 pin power connectors.

That's what my conclusion ended up being, we're going to try with another power supply soon so let's hope that works.
