To go for used monitor or not?

crsahkaz
Go to solution Solved by DrMacintosh,

If the monitor is relatively new there should be no problem.

My Dads work was replacing all their computer systems and thats where I got my two other monitors. They work great!

Just make sure they are not burnt in, have not dead pixels or dust under the display and that they work before you buy.

The used monitor I found is a samsung s22d300hy for $70 (likely to be close to 2 years of usage as its stated to be manufactured on November 2015, but seller doesn't have receipt. He has everything else and a 3 days personal warranty)

The new monitors I found cheapest (in my city) are:
aoc e2270 sw (100$) / dell e2216hv ($105) / samsung s22f350fhe ($110) / asus vs-228de ($110) / LG 22m35a ($115) / samsung s22f355 ($115)

I'm trying to keep it as low as possible, but I'm not sure if monitors are ok to buy used (and I don't know how long are their life expectancy). My max budget is $150 but I would rather not shell that much if possible.
I never bought a monitor on my own either, so I'm not sure what brands give the longest warranty and have the best life expectancy (if they're worth it).

Opinions guys?

Hmm, define relatively new for monitors? I'm still new to this haha.

But yeah I plan to go to check later.

Can you also clarify more about burnt in, dead pixels, and dust under the display? (if you don't mind -- I'm looking at google but not really getting it)

about burnt in, dead pixels, and dust under the display?

Burnt in means that an image will have a ghost image displaying over content all the tie

dead pixels are generally black pixels

and dust is dust under the screen lol.

Lol, my bad about the dust. Just not sure how you're suppose to check that.

And how long is "relatively new" in monitor case? Is 2 years still considered "relatively new"?

Yes. Im talking don't get something with VGA and DVI only if you can help it. I mean mine were free and my GPU can support 2DVI monitors so I didn't care.

Ahh, alright. Heck, what I've been finding seems to be mostly HDMI and VGA in the first place.
Was hoping I can find HDMI + DVI, but most of them are expensive (and displayports seems very rare unless I go Freesync or something).
