Why is my Ether mining hashrate crap?

I just started mining ether with an R9 290 and GTX 970 and I am only getting 5-5.2 MH/S on the 290 and 2.5-2.7 MH/S on my 970. I thought I should be getting 40-50 total? Help!

are you running on windows ? and what miner are u using?

I am using claymore on ethermine with a 290 getting 31. Windows 10 also

Try setting you GTX in Compute mode, go to NVIDIA Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Optimize for compute -> Enable
