msi geforce gtx 970 vs 1060 or 1070

Randommercy

this is my first post im not sure if i'm even doing it correctly but i am stuck trying to find a graphics card thats not so overpriced, i watched a few tech vids and he list the " Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB GDDR5 256 bit PCI-E 3.0 x 16 Windforce OC (GV-N1070WF2OC-8GD) " for around 300 us dollars in one of his videos, i looked online and any card with similar power or is significantly more expensive, im trying to do a 1000$ budget build and im only wanting to spend roughly 300-400 max on a card. at the moment im trying to figure out significant differences in cards from previous generations, i found a MSI Gaming geforce gtx 970 for 350$ on amazon and that seemed like a good deal, but again thats a older model, is it possible to get a better graphics card with that price in mind or am i stuck with a weaker performing card for that price? my build will mainly be for gaming, i plan and want mt mainly be playing blizzard title games such and overwatch, wow, sc2 and hots.

The GTX 970 is an old card from last gen, so it would make zero sense buying one for $350 when the GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 exist.

The videos you're watching have such low prices because they were made before mining heavily inflated the prices of the GPU market. Finding a $300 GTX 1070 is not possible nowadays.

For a $1000 build, your best bet is to have a R5 1600 with a GTX 1060 6GB.

Prices always change. You can use pcpartpicker to check prices of PC parts.

For $1000 budget it is still possible to fit a GTX 1070 and Ryzen 5 1600 in, but non-crucial parts will go cheap and color might not match.

You might want to try some used cards. Ebay and Craigslist are great options sometimes. The market for Graphics Cards in that price range is terrible right now.

I myself wouldn't pay over $300 for a 1060 6gb.

While just consuming 120 watt, and not 200+ like an Overclocked 970

You mean, a strong overclocked 970 ;)

A GTX 1060 is somewhat on GTX 980 level.

Beeing shitty would only mean, the Cooler is so incredibly shit, that it overheats and throttles. Otherwise... yea. The worst GTX 1060 > GTX 970.

Not to mention 6gb Vram vs. 3.5gb.

GTX 1060 is better than GTX 970 in EVERY single aspect.

GTX 970 should only be considered at a very low price. Which will be, <150$, of better <130. That would be a very decent deal.

Fact is: GTX 970 (no matter what model) for 350 bucks is pure Scam. Overpriced as hell, even more expensive than when it was the latest gen 1-2 years ago lol.

I got myself an ASUS Strix RX580 the week they came out, I had been planning my build for a long time and then I got that for less than $300. I'm so glad I didn't wait. xD

With the 970 there's a couple problems you might run into between lower RAM and older architecture. Look for a GTX 1060 that's not terribly overpriced.

Alternatively you might be able to find an RX 480 or 580, but don't pay over $300 for those.

Unfortunately GPU availability is at its lowest in the decade right now, probably.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

thanks for all the replies, this helps alot, im pretty current on everything about computers except graphics cards, i know on youtube you never want to really be spending over 500$ unless your an enthusiast.

i looked around everywhere and ended up choosing this graphics card https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N0P24HI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

i watched several reviews and looked at bench marks and it can run many titles at high settings in 1080p with 60fps which is exactly what im looking for with this budget build.

That's actually not a terrible price. Great find! I hope you enjoy your new PC man.
