M.2 slot identification help

Just asking, is this the m.2 slot on my laptop? It seems rather tiny so I just wanted to make sure before i bought anything to fill it.1503719937716588027429.thumb.jpg.b257a3009b9203e7ec66993808e65081.jpg

According to your model number, that is a M.2 slot and it runs on SATA.

So only an mSATA drive would work with it right?

This is a simplified way of figuring out how a M.2 slot is keyed. Since most of the time you'll be encountering M.2 slots for storage, you only need to find out if it's B or M keyed. B or B+M keyed usually means it's SATA only. M keyed is NVMe and SATA, assuming the SATA M.2 device is M keyed as well.

Two ways to figure out how the M.2 slot is keyed:

  • Orient the slot so the mounting screw is facing down. Now the keys are in alphabetical order (leftmost = A, rightmost = M). Thus B is on the left side, M is on the right side.
  • Count the pins of the shorter portion of the slot on the side where you insert the M.2 device.
    • 4 - M keyed
    • 5 - B keyed
