How much RAM do I need? (+other stuff)

I want to finalize my build and I need to know how much ram my system needs. I will be doing school work, watching YouTube and playing games such as, Far Cry, Rust, BF1, and Overwatch. I have 16 gb in my parts list but I could cut that down and find a budget for an ssd or something else. The few things that I don't want to change are the monitor, color scheme, red and black/white, and CPU.

Thanks,

Helix

8GB should be fine for that and you can always add more later.

You can obtain a dirt cheap windows oem license key from either amazon or kinguin (around 30 dollars) if you'd like to save a few extra bucks!

The build is fine but I wold not pay $309 for a 1060. That is was overpriced. Get a used card from eBay or a lower end card.

Something like and Rx 570 or 1050ti

The used market is dead in the US especially in boulder colorado.

No they wont. I would get a $30 license key as well. I did it and it worked great.

Paying $100 for Windows 10 is insane. Ads, forced updates and software, meta data collection, and its a buggy and untested OS. Not worth it imo.

Any "OEM" key you buy can, they simply aren't supposed to be sold individually, doesn't matter where you buy it from! Pretty much buying any key that isn't "retail" has the chance of being shut down, but highly unlikely it will happen! paying $90 for an oem key vs $30, is insane as it is the SAME!

The used market is pretty fine rn in the US. If you want volta I would just get a used card for 1080p or something like a 1050ti to hold you over or just get Vega 56

You should really look at AMD cards. Limiting yourself to Nvidia just hurts you potentially. A 970 is alright but that 3.5GB of VRAM ended in a lawsuit.

I am planning on buying the g-sync monitor in the partslist below in preparation for Volta.

You can always get a FreeSync monitor and a Vega card and get the same experience for less.

well not right now buy by the time Volta comes out (lol will it ever) they should be accessible.

Nvidia said themselves they have no reason to release it.

Also, an equivalent AMD card is to expensive to make up for cheap costs of free sync.

Just pick up something used and consider AMD for cheaper monitors that are just as good. Volta is not coming for a while, going Vega is probably the better option for you if you want your system to be at its maximum asap.

Not really. Vega prices will stabilize far before Volta is out.
