Battlefield 4 virtually unplayable...

First off, the specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670k @ 2x4.5 GHz & 2x4.6 GHz w/ 1.25v

Motherboard: Asus Z87-PRO

RAM: G.skill Sniper 2x4 GB (8 GB) @ 1600 MHz XMP

GPU: Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST in SLI with stock overclocks from factory

OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit

Second, the problem:

I bought BF4 for $20 bucks on Thanksgiving after had downloading (I'mma pirate!) the game to try out the single player. The downloaded BF4 worked flawlessly. No crashes, no freezes, nothing.

Now, once I had gotten home and downloaded the game from Origin, I played the single player again but on hard mode. During the game play, the game would crash and display this error. (NOTE: This isn't the screenshot I took. Thank you Google!)

vABzVoA.png

The other problem I have while playing the game is that the game would freeze my entire computer, causing me to push the reset button on my case to restart the computer.

The last problem I have with this game is that it would just do a regular crash. Meaning that after a few seconds, the "*application name goes here* is not responding"

Things I have done:
1. Re-installed the latest Nvidia drivers with clean install option checked.

2. Re-installed Battlefield 4

3. Did the 'fix' where the .cab files in the are either deleted or moved into a folder within the folder and then that folder containing the folder where the .cab files are in and the other 3 files are moved into the _INSTALL folder.

I have no idea of what else to do.. These problems are making me wish that I hadn't bought it in the first place but I couldn't pass up that awesome deal. I want to play multiplayer but I just can't with all these crashes and freezes that are going on.

Any other ideas on how to take care of this? Anyone else still having these problems?

you said the gfx cards were running stock. does that mean no msi afterburner? no evga precision? no gigabyte idk? those make the game crash from time to time.

                                                                                      wow... pretty empty here...

Same message, just different card and driver version. I'm lazy!

No sure how to do that on Windows 8.1...

Control Panel>Uninstall Programs

Your talking about reinstalling DirectX right.

And another possible solution is to try without SLI.

They are running stock overclocked straight from Asus themselves. I haven't done anything with them besides throw them in, plug in the power, and put the SLI bridge on.

These cards ran perfect on the downloaded BF4 with no crashes, freezes, nothing. But since I downloaded and installed from Origin, all hell broke loose.

Don't think that Punkbuster has anything to do with playing single player. Punk buster has to do with playing multi player and if Punkbuster picks something up, it kicks you off the server, not crash the game or freeze the computer.

Yes, the CPU is over clocked. Refer to specs.

Sorry for that post; it's late already (germany)

Ofcourse punkbuster doesn't affect the singleplayer....  :/

I think unless someone has something useful you have to wait until ea patches this damn game...

I've done everything that I could find on the internet that could work. I even saw a few posts of EA releasing a patch or two for the game.

Battlefield 3 works perfectly fine on my config and BF3 had the same problems that other people were having with BF4! And I got that from Origin! AND for 5 bucks! I'm on a role with these deals! Hah

OP check this wiki: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Battlefield_4#Issues_fixed

From what I can gather on the error image you posted, it appears DirectX is having problems so I would suggest updating DirectX as well as updating to 4.5.1. .NET. If this doesn't help then disable Direct X11(at the very bottom of the Issues Fixed link).

Go to your game files:

Wherever yours is\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\__Installer\directx\redist

Find, run and install "DXSETUP.exe"

See if that helps.

Ran that and I thought it did the trick but it crashed with the same error that is in the screenshot.

Windows 8.1 has .NET 4.5.1 pre-installed.

its the game.... its currently in a bad state. wait for patches.

That's what it's looking like...

Do you have virtual memory disabled by any chance?

Since when did windows 8.1 have aero?

Also its weird that it says GTX 780. When my titan crashed it said "GTX TITAN".

Also get rid of SLI and buy a proper gpu like a gtx 770, nothing but issues with SLI

Isn't it kinda weird buying a really good cpu but being cheap on the gpu?

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K 4,6GHZ OC MB: MSI Mpower z77  RAM: Kingston Genesis 1600Mhz CL9 16GB

GPU: ASUS R9 290 Direct CUII  PSU: Corsair AX 860

Virtual memory (Page file) is disabled. Kinda need that space with a SSD.

Have you disabled Origin in game?

Also, you could try disabling DX 11 / DX 11.1 using Realmware's BF4 config editor. I did some googling and it seems some people fixed a fair amount of DirectX related crashes by doing so.

I'll have to look in to that

The screenshot is something I just Google. That isn't my screenshot, it wouldn't look that pretty cause it would be taken with the phone.

It says 780 because the person who uploaded that screenshot was running a 780 and gotten that error.

I would have gotten a 770 but at the time I purchased two 650 Ti BOOST, the 770 was way out of my budget. It was only a few weeks or so after I had bought them, the price of the 770 dropped dramatically to my budget range. At that time, I wasn't able to return the 650 Ti BOOST's for a full refund and get the 770.

I have no issues running these two in SLI play other games. Downloaded BF4 ran perfect on these cards. It's the legal BF4 that I'm having problems with.
