Hi, i'm looking for upgrade my 6600k for a better CPU performance. Gaming is NOT my priority.

I want to do heavy CPU task, but I'm on a budget, so i9 and threadsripper is out of reached

I got around 800$ Cad for a CPU and motherboard.

So R7 1700x ? or I7 8700k ?

1700x  8 core 16 thread base clock 3.4 GHz boost to 3.8 GHz

8700k  6 core 12 thread base clock 3.7 GHz boost to 4.3 GHz

My guess is more core is better than higher GHz and i can buy R7 1700x right now, Cofee Lake ill have to wait next years to get it.

So what are you thinking?

Thank's

1700 over coffee lake, 2 cores is better than slightly better IPC and 200mhz better overclocking.

1700 can overclock to 1700x or 1800x speeds.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

I'd get the 1700 instead. It overclocks the same, comes with a decent cooler, and is overall cheaper than the 1700x.

i7-12700k | MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 | 2x16GB Team Group DDR4-3200CL14 | be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 | EVGA FTW3 2070 SUPER | 500GB Samsung 970 EVO Plus | 4TB Seagate Barracuda 5400RPM | Fractal Design Meshify C

If you're comfortable overclocking then you might I'd suggest an R7 1700. As far as I've read in the majority of cases it can overclock to 3.8GHz no problem on the stock cooler. I'm about to build my new build with a 1700 today or tomorrow so fingers crossed...

CPU: R7 1700 @ 3.7GHz - GPU: Asus 1080 Ti STRIX - RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz - MB: ASUS X370 Crosshair VI Hero - Cooler: NZXT Kraken X62 2x140mm AIO - Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD - Case: Phanteks P400s Tempered Glass - Monitor: LG - 34UM88C 34.0" 3440x1440 KEYBOARD: Leopold FC660M ISO (MX blues) & Tai Hao Cement/Lavender keycaps

R7 1700 oc to 1700x GHz speed but 1700x oc more than 1700 ?

not really, they all sorta top out around 4.0 GHz, some better than others. The 1700X is better binned than the 1700's though...
