Maybe wrap some tap around part of it so it isn't as lose in the slot? I got a 3DS XL in May and right out of the box the stylus was loose but it still like "clips" in fine.

New stylus. It's either the retainer on the 3DS or the stylus.

new stylus, cary case with stylus holder or tape for a friction fit are all i can think off

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

most likely the bit that grabs the slot for the stylus has warn away. Get a new one.
