Crap FPS in OW

JoeNoIce

i own a ryzen 1200 and a gigabyte gtx 1070 and for some reason no matter how low i put the graphical settings it is currently at the lowest possible settings and still my fps drops to 20 fps in a fight of 6v6 durning total mayhem and i get perfect 60 when standing completely still in the spawn room.

you probably have the frame limiter on if you are getting nothing above 60fps

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

You're probably CPU limited and the drops to 20 are stutters caused by being CPU limited. The Ryzen 1200 is pretty weak sauce for high fps gaming, even in esports titles like Overwatch.

Absolute nonsense, it's a decent CPU. Not sure I would've paired it with a 1070 but it should still be hitting >60fps in OW.

OP, turn off all overclocking first, it could be unstable. Always disable overclocking when you're troubleshooting unexpected performance issues.

Then look with MSI afterburner if you're seeing anything weird. High CPU/GPU usage, RAM/VRAM usage. Coreclocks, etc.

i would have turned off OC if it was effecting it before which it wasnt.

if the cpu is whats struggling, turning your graphics back up can help push some of that load back onto the gpu instead.

what is your cpu usage while your playing?

How do Reavers clean their spears?

Or you can just monitor you CPU/GPU usage during a game to see what screwed up. Try without any OC

i think i should have saved up a bit more and got the ryzen 7 instead cuz cpu useage is almost 99%

Is it overclocked? Have you tried running synthetics to see if you're caught in the 1.5GHz bug?

Also, try the last Nvidia driver.

i just uped the clock to 3.9 with the stock cooler right now its sitting comfortably at around 40% usage when not doing cpu heavy tasks

40%? When not doing anything? Check Resource Manager. Make sure that you're not wasting cycles somewhere they aren't needed.

i guess i should not use wallpaper engine for the time being cuz it takes about 10-20% usage and it is a simple animation of witch mercy going up and down.

You'll have to save your OC profile and set the defaults for the stock test.

you can set wallpaper engine to disable animations when you have a fullscreen application active. i suggest doing that
