Hello,

I have to rebuild my Computer. And I'm not sure what CPU and GPU I should pick up.

I currently have a i5-4570 with 16 GB of RAM. My budget is ~ 900 Euros (1000$).

Someone gave me the advice I should go with an i7-4790k and a GTX 1080. That not only exceed my budget but I'm not sure if that is the way to go.

Would it be a smart move to go with an 4 Gen. Chip when 8. Gen is coming up soon. And the i7-4790k coasts more than an i7-7700k but is weeker too.

So the only argument for the i7-4790k would be that I don't have to spend a large amount of money on a motherboard and RAM.

And depending on the part I have to spend on the CPU (+mainboard + RAM) I would choose the GPU (I thought I would go for a GTX 1070 cause I think that's the best allrounder that doesn't cost too much)

I mostly play FPSs like Rainbow Six Siege, Battlefield 4 and GTA at 1440p with 144 Hrz.

Thanks for your answeres!

It was so that we can make a parts list appropriate to the price that you could buy it in so that you have a better idea / real view on pricing for the build we make.

Yes R5-1600, and get a better 1070, probably EVGA, they are quieter and have better cooling.

Yeah I looked a little bit into the various types of 1070s and read that the Zotec Extreme & ASUS should be very decent. I think I will go with one of these, or do you have any specific recommendations?

ANY Evga or zotac cards, they are simple and work well. You can't go wrong with them. I feel like ASUS just charges premium for "gamer" atheistics.

Totally agree with you there but I'm thinking to upgrade to a case with a glass panel and put the PC on my desk sometimes... so I probably should care about that.

But on the GPU I will decide later, the CPU comes first

Don't bother with Ryzen. You can grab a used 4770k or 4790k for less than 300 euros. Either of which would be more than adequate and save you a bunch of money. As for GPU, GTX 1080 is not an upgrade from a 980Ti. I wouldn't bother 'uograding' unless you get a 1080Ti.

My 980Ti is broke so I have to "upgrade" or at least buy a new one

And I wouldn't gain much from both of these chips... I thought that a 1600X overclocked would be the best solution

RMA it? Unless you broke it and they won't replace/fix it. Then you can get a GTX 1080 for 600 euros, which youd be able to afford if you get a used 4770k/4790k.

Yes, you would. You would get hyper threading. With a 1600x you'll be losing gaming performance. If you specifically needed some newer features that you don't get with LGA1150 and/or really needed better multithreaded performance where Ryzen does pull ahead of a Haswell i7, then sure go R5. However, Haswell i7 is more than capable, still performs better than Ryzen in the majority of games and is cheaper.

That's why I'm probably going for the 1080. I get back 900 Euros and the 1080 only costs 600 so I'm actually saving 300 Bucks and still getting better performance.

And an i7-4790 wouldn't bottleneck such a high-end Graphics card?

Nope, don't get a 4790 though, get a 4790k. Make sure you get the unlocked variant.

I looked into CPUs the last few horses and now I ended up pretty confused and unsatisfied... but it feels like I should just go with a Razon and OC it...  but I'm super uncertain....
