So I'm building a gaming rig, and I have a question.

No, I'm not asking for opinions on my build, although much welcome. (List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jgbmM8)

So, if you did look at the list, you would've seen I'm getting a 1440p 144Hz monitor, but I'm not sure if I would prefer 4K. I've never even really saw anything better than 1080p, so I was thinking that 4K would be way cooler to see and use, but others say a 144Hz monitor is better even though it's only 1440p. Thoughts?

Thanks.

For gaming, go 144Hz 1440p. The high refresh rate is SOOO nice to have in games. Especially fast-paced ones.

Imo 4K is nice to show-off but that's about it, it won't exactly give you a better gaming experience than 1440p or even 1080p. It might look better yes but that's about it.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

I do stream and do some editing in Premiere and AE, so maybe. I know Acers are around the same price so.

An NVME ssd has no real gaming benefits. If you were moving many files (or large files) around then it would be pretty useful. I'd suggest getting the 850 EVO 500gb.

I switched from 1080p 144hz to 1440p 144hz recently. I like the higher resolution :^)

Yeah people say it's good, but now more and more Youtubers are uploading in 4K (I am a heavy video watcher lol), and I feel like they'd look better, but then I lose 144Hz, so I'm torn lol.

I have a 144Hz 1440p Monitor (Asus PG278Q) and i love it. Recently bought a 1080p 60Hz laptop and was really hard to look at it. 4k is still really expensive and 144Hz is really nice. Cheers

The 4K monitor is actually cheaper than the 1440p monitor that I would buy actually, so again this is another reason why I may buy 4K60

Bottom line is: are you going to game more or watch more videos? I think that contemplation is the deciding factor here. I cannot emphasize how much 144Hz is a game changer (litteraly) but 4K is really nice too and your 1080Ti is gonna handle it very well. But is your choice so good luck with that

WIll probably end up with 4K unless the 1440p monitor gets closer to $699 instead of $799. I watch videos to game 80:20 so gonna go with 4K most likely. I also stream and edit so it would help out.

4K cheaper than 1440@144? Wow. Either way, I'd reccomend with whichever one has a higher pixel density, but it depends on your usecase.I'd recommend 4K only if you use your computer for video editing. Anything else and I'd say 1440@144.

However, I personally would go with whichever one is cheaper.

Fan Comparisons          F@H          PCPartPicker         Analysis of Market Trends (Coming soon? Never? Who knows!)

Designing a mITX case. Working on aluminum prototypes.

Open for intern / part-time. Good at maths, CAD and airflow stuff. Dabbled with Python.

With those statistics - I'd go with 4k unless you are a hardcore gamer or your gpu can't handle it. The 1440 is %16 brighter, but shares viewing angle, response time, and lacks as many colors as the 4k one. 10/10 4K.

However, Newegg is out of stock atm - so keep an eye out for it.

Why not Ryzen ? At 4K it will be pretty much neck and neck with an i7. If you want Intel then maybe wait for Coffee Lake which should be out in a few weeks.

I'm waiting for coffee lake, yeah. I don't think I really need Ryzen tbh. I do game more than stream and Intel is better for that.

There won't be much of a difference in most games at 4K as the gpu has to do more work. If you are set on Intel though then yeah wait for Coffee Lake. Just had a quick google and it is supposedly released on the 21st Aug so not long at all.
