What to do with my old PC?

Introoke

Hi guys,

I have a pc but im not happy with it. The Mainboard is shit, same goes for the rest but the GPU. I have a MSI Radeon R9 390 Gaming 8g and a old i5.

I want to buy me a new Computer. Should I go in Crossfire (SLI for AMD) or should i sell the GPU and buy a new, better one?

If you say I should make the Crossfire thing, which second GPU should I use and why?
If you say I should sell the old GPU and buy a new one, which one should I buy?

Money for the new PC: 500-600€ (+maybe the money from the GPU if I sell it)

Thanks for your answers, Introoke :)

CF and SLI are stupid as support is limited and devs hate it.  I'm just doing a 275 SLI for the lulz.  It's better to have a strong single card.  By the way, a 390 is more than enough for 1080p ultras.  Also, what are your full current specs?

Oh I realized I have an even worse CPU, a Intel(R) Core 2 Quad cpu Q9650 @ 3,00GHz

Otherwise 6gb ram (a slow one i think)

2hdd (they are ok), 1ssd (ok aswell)

Power supply: Corsair vx550w (rubbish)

motherboard: Some asus p5q (rubbish)

kms

Didn't see you updated the specs. Those are still good for some people. How much would you sell it for?

You said it was a crap. xD That one is known for many RMAs as the internal fan grinds and makes buzzing sounds aka really bad coil whine with a lot failing.  It's the number one complaint of the thing on Newegg.  That Seasonic is far superior.

I dont have soundproblems, but it's annoying that there are preinstalled cables, which you cant extend, which means the cable management is hard, you cant exchange them aswell, so you cant put your custom coloured cables in your computer :P

I was actually in that position for a while (Xeon X540-the Xeon version of your C2Q), GTX 970, 6GB of RAM (DDR2 800 because the motherboard hates running DDR2 1066 across more than 3 sticks of RAM...despite listing support for DDR2 1200), 60GB SSD and a 1TB HDD.

As an upgrade, I'd recommend skipping i3/Pentium and going straight to Ryzen 4 or 5 as you might as well overclock your current CPU to 4-4.4GHz if an i3/Pentium is all that you can find (very similar performance in the low end/non rip off models), perhaps an i5 6500/7500.  As for the motherboard+ram, its simply a matter of price vs what you want/need.  The current PSU would do the job fine (in fact it would probably be under a slightly lower load) though as mentioned above it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace it.  You also don't need to replace the stock cooler since AMD actually includes good coolers (Intel's coolers are only fine on low end locked i5 and cheaper parts)
