Upgrade my RT-AC66U?

Klovnious

So, my coworker was talking about how sick the RT5300 is, and said it's just flawless when streaming large files (like a 5GB+++ file)

So I thought, maybe I should upgrade? When I stream stuff it tends to lag alot, and stutter alot, and when gaming on console its stuttering alot aswell.

Is it worth to upgrade?

I have approximately 60-70mbps dl speed and 15mbps up speed.

The router is placed in the same room, and should be optimized for it.

Get a wifi analyzer app and see what the signal on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands is like around the home. If they quality is pretty low then an upgrade might be in order.

I have the same router, and I get ~25Mbyte/s transfer, which is about 200mbit/s (faster than your internet). That's plenty for 1080p streaming. Could just be your wireless device that is underperforming and unless you switch to AC (which your device needs to support) you're not going to see any improvement.

I know when I stream very large movies (high bitrate I guess) via plex to chromecast that chromecast shits the bed, whereas if I stream the same movie to my xbox one it streams without a hitch.
