Is there anything I could do to make this build quicker, better, or just more powerful in any way?

I will be using this rig for gaming (Destiny 2, Overwatch, Titanfall 2, etc) and very heavy web browsing (100 tabs at once at some times)

Try to keep the suggestions under roughly 500 USD.

I have been thinking about upgrading the SSD boot drive to M.2, which would mean I would probably upgrade to a Z270 or X299 mobo+cpu, or maybe Ryzen

Thanks in advance.

EDIT -

Thanks for the help, I will be upgrading to Coffee Lake, and M.2 storage (probably a 950/960 Pro). Any other advice?

Yeah, I have heard about that, but should I upgrade to Z270 or X299 or just stay on Z170 if I am to get an i7? @Lurick

Depends on if you plan to go with a 7700K or 6700K.

If you're looking to swap, I would go for the 6700K to save the hassle of changing boards too.

Get a 7700K or wait for Coffeelake, which will be like a 6C/12T 7700K. Although, you will have to get a new motherboard for Coffeelake.

I'd recommend either a Ryzen 7 or i7. Personally, I think the extra cores and threads of Ryzen will give it an advantage in the long run as games are optimised for more cores but if you already have a Z170 motherboard then get an i7. Make sure to check if a Kaby Lake will even run properly on your chipset (check Motherboard manufacturer's website) and if now then you'll either have to get a Skylake i7 or upgrade to Z270. The other option is wait for Coffee Lake.

You don't need to swap birds, just flash the bios ?

As as others have suggested I would wait for coffee lake, however that won't land until after destiny 2. That game is also supposed to to use all cores so a Ryzen chip maybe viable, however in your situation your build looks good with the i5 aside, I would just swap in the 7700k and flash your boards bios (chances are if it's new it will already have a bios supporting kabylake onboard)

Honestly, I would probably get the Crosshair Hero with ac wifi, if I was going to get anything, bc I just don't think the extra M.2 and a few more I/O ports are worth it, when I could get a 1700 with it and have an extra 4 threads.

Yes, you could. If it's straight gaming, Intel triumphs with IPC and clock speeds, go ahead and wait for the coffee lake for gaming. At the same time, Zen 2 is coming out a bit after CoffeLake. See what that has in store as it also might be a great choice. Not that Ryzen isn't already it's just that the gaming performance is lacking compared to Intel.

Yeah, that 6 core i7 looks pretty good too. I'll just pair it with the mid tier Maximus X
